I am also privy to a lot of sites that will help you to get your site recognized, boost rankings, and make it easier for you to promote yourself and your product.

Apogee is an Austin based Search Engine Optimization site that has a free search engine marketing analysis. The site also features a page of downloads and resources for those of us who want to learn how best to present our websites to the world.

Bruce Clay‘s site offers tutorials on how to make sure your site is at its highest potential to be found on search engines. Site ranking is key. In order to be seen, you must be able to be found by search engines. Word of mouth and submission to lots of search engines is not enough, and this site promises to tell you how.

Wikipedia has a definition of SEO, or search engine optimization, that will help you grasp what it is and why it’s so important.
