Gadgets: Did you know?

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

That a loofah *spelled luffa* is actually a vegetable? I didn’t know that either. Apparently you can make your own loofah sponge. Here are some instructions to show you how easy it really can be. You can buy your own seeds to grow the vegetable yourself. This is a great way to get a luffa sponge and have some as presents to give away *or sell them to others for a wicked profit*.

Wii will, Wii will rock you…

Monday, November 27th, 2006

So far all signs point to Wii being the better gaming system over the Playstation 3. A friend of mine on Vox is testing them both right now. He agrees that Wii is better.

I like it for the sheer physical user involvement. The days of sitting hours on end staring at a screen. I am pretty sure the game developers got tired of the critics saying that people were losing out on physical fitness by sitting around eating snacks and playing games all day.

I cannot wait to see the different games that will be released to satisfy the thirst of those who end up with one of these. It’s already sold out in the US…but I bet by next Christmas they will be lower in price and more widely available.

So far, Ebay still has a few for sale and lots of XBox 360 game systems, too.

Blog Review: GeekySpeaky.com

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

The fun starts here. I have never been exposed to such a candid look at the tech world. This mom really knows how to keep your interest while giving you another look at technology. I love it because, like my blog, it’s about tech from a non-techie perspective.

When she finds things of interest, she will make sure to give you her side. If she finds geek jokes that make her laugh, she will definitely share. I love her honest, fun approach to technology and blogging.

I look forward to reading more about her fun times on the Net. Get her RSS feed or just bookmark her blog to share in the fun times. Don’t forget to comment!

Review: PoundPrivacy.org

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

INFO:

Poundprivacy.org (#privacy) is campaigning for the largest search entities on the internet to become more secure. They have proposed to use their standardized #privacy as a way to protect all searches except those which are blatantly criminal such as searches for child pornography.

They are asking anyone else who believes in safe and private searching on the net to write an open letter to any of the four search engines (Google, Ask, Yahoo, and MSN) they are in the process of working with and tell them what you think. You can also link to them, use #privacy in your searches, or use their banner on your site.
OPINION:

I support their efforts 100%. I would rather not have everything that I search for cached across the Internet. Guess I have another thing to remember as I run willy-nilly across the internet looking for whatever it is.

I just wonder how effective it will be overall. How are they filtering which sites are criminal and won’t be protected and which aren’t criminal? Using the #privacy will not render you quick results as of yet, until it’s fully adopted into the search engines. The site does offer the Greasemonkey Privacy script which I have just installed. I will give you an update after I have made a full test run of the script.

Others are already talking about the implications of using #privacy in searches. Take a look:

Seventeen Tips

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Silent Bits has a list of seventeen tips to increase page rank and site visibility. The tips outline easy ways to build momentum and readership of your website or blog. It’s an arduous process with over one million blogs being updated every day across the globe, but it usually only takes about three to six months to get a page rank. Continuous updating is a must. Fresh content is eaten up like fruit given to a scurvy patient. Take your time and write content that interests others as well. Use the spell check and make sure that your content is clear and concise. Make your archives easy to find. Double check that you have made the layout easy for the search spiders to crawl and see what is pertinent.

Remember, FRESH interesting content is key.
