Microsoft heeds Vista criticism

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

Finally! Someone out there is listening and being smarter about this whole “transferring only to one other computer” nonsense. According to reports, Microsoft has decided to allow unlimited numbers of transfers, but keeps their stance that only one computer may hold the Vista license at a time.

Good job, Microsoft. I must say that I am amazed, not impressed, by your move forward. Giving the consumers what they want is a great start.

Now we will just wait to see how this program that takes 15 GB to run and implodes upon itself as you try to run the installed applications can stand on its own two feet.

Testing: Newgie, news gatherer

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

From time to time I will be trying out sites and giving you my opinion about them and whether or not they are worth the effort. I am doing the work so you don’t have to ;)

Today’s test is of the beta site Newgie.com. The site holds a plethora of news from all over the world. Newgie members are the sole influence to determine the popularity of different news stories. You can manage your subscriptions, join communities, and add your own news feeds.
Newgie News Gathering site
Now that you know what it does, let me tell you about what I think. The interface is a good idea, especially for those of us who would rather not have a RSS feed aggregator attached to our browsers. Sign up is quick and simple and when you log in there is an introduction to all the features. Once you go inside the site, you find that it is hard to decipher news stories. The interface is jumbled up a bit. I have taken a screenshot for you to see what it looks like. This is the My Newgie page.

Probably just my preference, but I would rather have my news lined up in boxes so it is more easily distinguished and not just one straight line down.

It is a useful site, but I will stick with my Sage plugin.

Try it out yourself and talk about your own experience with Newgie:
