New searches, New SEO guidelines?

Friday, December 29th, 2006

The new searches like Wikiasari and Sproose leave a few questions unanswered: How will this affect the present guidelines for search engine optimization? Will it even matter anymore?

Users being able to boost or ruin another site’s reputation also bring up some ethical questions. Who is to say that people will not soon be paying others to bury their competitors in negative reviews? The sites will never see the light of day again!

The dangers of this type of user based system getting out of hand is very eminent. I have heard rumors of people being cajoled to Digg or bury articles on this already popular user-rated system. Hopefully they will find a way to deter people from abusing their power.

Robots crawling under our feet

Friday, December 29th, 2006

In recent news, it has come to my attention that there are now robots that will crawl under the city to check on the lines that run electricity and such. This seems like a good deal, right? Less obtrusive than the normal methods. Of course, it could also be kind of unnerving when one thinks about the implications of it all.

I knew when that movie “I, Robot” came out that this was not far from the truth. When we watched the “Matrix” before that I said that it was born from a scenario that was already in the making. When we watched “Terminator” the trilogy, we all understood that these things just might come to pass. Now that they are on the horizon, it’s just a bit more scary than I once imagined.

Microsoft’s RSS Patent Application, Bloggers Furious

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Microsoft has gone insane. They just put in for a patent for the RSS *really simple syndication* technology because they “want to make it better”. YEAH …whatever. They know how big syndication is all over the Internet. There are so many places that provide it for free, they just want to monetize it…therefore making it better for them.

I am not surprised at their move, but they shouldn’t be surprised by the outcry either. Many bloggers are up in arms in protest to this proposal. I am one of them.

Samsung has been busy this year

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Samsung has just introduced a new 1 Gigabite Mobile DRAM chip…the largest capacity of its peers. It is meant for devices that are hand held and not laptops, though. I don’t doubt that the chip for laptops is in the works for early next year.

They have also released plans for a marathon fuel cell for laptops. The cell has methanol based fuel inside so I am unsure of how they will market this type of 8 hours per day/5 days a week/4 weeks in a row energy source safely. The concern of using these on an airplane has already been brought up. There is another smaller cell in the works that will be able to run a notebook for a week on a cup of coffee’s worth of fuel.

Review: Mobile Soft Market Savings Site

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

MobileSoft Market features a lot of low priced software, ebooks, and other applications at discount rates. If you have a Blackberry, Palm, Pocket PC, Smartphone, Symbian, or PSP you will find some interesting deals on the site. I think they would do better to expand their content and offerings, but for now they have a pretty good grasp on their industry. Blackberry seems to be the most supported mobile tool on the site at this time.

If you aren’t already impressed by their low prices, buy something and take another 15% off with the coupon code “0NGKAE”.
