Advertisers Gaming the Gamers
By Bulletz. Filed in Computer Tech, Gaming |Recently, there was an admission that there are advertisers who pay to get their ads onto billboards and such in video games. No surprise, right? We all have played a racing game to find ads from all sorts of places lining the walls of the tracks. What is the problem with this? Nothing, really, until you have advertisers who sell cheats and codes on their websites just so they can up their profits.
Gamers could redeem points worth $3.75 to buy a software “add-on” that unlocks pro shop gear to drive the ball farther. Another $3 gets Wood’s lucky red shirt (In real life, Woods wears a red shirt during a game’s final round because he says it intimidates competitors and symbolizes power).
Is this a step in the wrong direction? Can’t we have gaming stay pure and wholesome *snicker*…no I couldn’t say that with a straight face. Advertisers will exploit every means to make some money, but I think that sometimes they don’t look at the ethics of the deal.
