Stop Cyberbullying Day

Friday, March 30th, 2007

In honor of Kathy Sierra, the Blogher community has announced that today should be is Stop Cyberbullying Day. I am all for it. I read the account of bullying and intimidation that was made public by Kathy herself. It was a courageous attempt at letting the world know that what happens on the Internet doesn’t stay on the Internet. This community is not one that is going to allow intimidation and scare tactics to overrun its halls. We will stand up for our rights to live without fear of cowards who hide behind anonymity.

I am one hundred percent behind the initiative to stop the cyberbullying. I have been a victim myself on more than one occasion. It seems that if you stand for anything, people will try to cut you down. Thanks to people like Kathy Sierra, we don’t have to just stand there and let them do it.

Edited to say that the idea originated here. Thanks for the comment and correction on that :D

Online Storage for your files

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

One of the most popular ways to back up your files are online storage facilities. It’s like having a garage or rented storage space for your files. IBackup Online Backup charges very little for a large amount of storage. They have different plan levels to suit your needs. The average user will probably only use about five gigabytes for files and photos. More advanced users will need more storage. The plans start at $9.95 per month. There are other options for people or companies who need more tailored service. It’s an easy way to make sure you keep your files at hand and to make sure you never lose your important documents in a computer crash. According the Frequently Asked Questions, you may also request a free trial to make sure that IBackup is the company for you.

Yahoo Mail goes unlimited

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Yahoo! has just announced that they will be making unlimited storage accounts available to their patrons in May of this year. It’s a great move on their part as Gmail and Google are gaining moment in the world of storage and email. Inbox.com is also running to meet them with their new promotions to gain more storage for all types of media.

I am glad, I can finally just watch the email pile up and not worry about filling the box to the max.

Gotta love information: Home buyers

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The Internet is the information super highway. We all know that, but we also need to know where to find information that is pertinent to our lives. Lots of us use search engines. Lots of us use the recommendation of friends to websites and articles that we can use.

I know a lot of my friends, and myself, are in the market to buy a new home. I got burned the first time I went house shopping. There were some basic principles that I just didn’t know. Thankfully, someone has decided to put together a web article called 43 Must-Know Tips for Every First-time Home Buyer. Those tips will come in handy for the next time we actually decide to put in a bid for a house.

This is the reason I love the Internet. Free education is always welcome.

Unimpressed with Twitter

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Everyone is all a Twitter and I don’t see why. I just signed up for the service yesterday, pasted the embed code on one of my blogs, and watched it sit there and do nothing. It’s a beautiful shade of purple, though. I must admit the color is fetching. I liked the way I could make the color to my liking before posting it anywhere. I am going to post a blue one at the end of this so you can see what Twitter is.

The system updates every two minutes so you can see what your friends are up to. I fathom that the point is so everyone knows what you are doing at any given moment of the day. It was engineered with cell phones and instant messengers in mind, though.

My major problem is how long it takes for the website pages to load, then how long it takes for the status to recognize my newly typed in text. I am still waiting for it to say *hey your new status is now in your window* I have been writing this for about 2 minutes and I am still waiting. Then you have to wait for that information to be sent to wherever your little Twitter widgets are located.

I hope that they speed up their service. Three and a half minutes to figure out that I updated my status so they can update my widgets is beyond me. I also hope they get their IM back up and working. I just tried to set mine up and the service is down. I will be keeping an eye on them to see if they do improve.
