One for the girls: Teen wins 100K for research

Friday, March 16th, 2007

I just had to point this out. I read about the girl who won $100,000 science scholarship this morning and thought “You go, girl!”. Not enough gals are getting in on this part of the world and I applaud any who are smart enough and determined enough to get into science and math and do well with it. I hope that we see her face many more times as the years go on. I see great things for this girl… great things!!

Review: U-Doo by Wirefly

Friday, March 16th, 2007

U-Doo is a new avatar application from Wirefly. I have been checking out this interesting interface for making an avatar. I actually have it on my Myspace. It has been there for a few days. It was easy to add in. All I did was make my avatar with their website, click to let it know I wanted to add it to my myspace profile, and it asked me for my login info so that it could be added automagically.

I was reassured that they weren’t keeping my login information.

You can do more than just add the avatar you make to your Myspace. The main function is to add it to your cell phone to be used as a ringtone. You can also email it to your friends. You tell the avatar what to say via text or a phoned in message and in what voice to say it in. There are premade voices for text entry, but you would have your own voice if you phone it in yourself.

Downloading to your phone starts a subscription service that is free for the first 60 days and after that only $4.99 a month for unlimited usage. Email and Myspace options are free for users.

Why, Toshiba?

Friday, March 16th, 2007

In their efforts to keep in the news, Toshiba has introduced their new yogurt machine. I can only guess that it’s because they want to keep making different technologies that might make the world a less expensive place to live. Honestly, it is a confusing sentiment compared to the list of other gadgetry they already make. Okay, Toshiba…where are you going with this?

Wii knocks the socks off its competitors

Friday, March 16th, 2007

I am not surprised that the Nintendo Wii has outsold the Xbox 360 and PS3 at all. I said before that the Wii would win the day. What is really interesting is that it’s not an individual comparison… this is about the combined sales of the rivals as compared to the Wii. I think what really put them over was the interactive interface. These types of games had been up and coming for a while, but it was hard to really put it into the hands of someone who would really be able to get into the play aspect of it all, except for in some popular gaming hot spots.

I applaud Nintendo for coming up with the Wii and getting people off their butts and back into the game. I anticipate that the near future holds some pretty awesome virtual reality gaming tech from them as well.

More for your money: Freelance Designers

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I have been reading alot lately about freelancing. There are so many people looking for jobs online it’s almost insane. Within that pool are freelance web designers who are looking to make websites for whoever needs them. It’s more cost effective to go with freelancers sometimes because they are independent, and will give you more personalized service for your money. They will also be the first to make sure that you absolutely are satisfied with the design before signing off on it.

This site allows you to find freelancers to do the job you need or sign up as a freelancer. You get a seven day trial membership for $2.95 a day. It’s inexpensive after that at $29.95 a month. It’s worth a shot to take a look and see if you can find the perfect job, or freelancer, to suit your needs.
