BP Energy killing Lake Michigan?
Monday, July 23rd, 2007That’s what the Chicago Tribune has said. They accuse BP of unsafe environmental practices. They have been called out for the amount of sludge and ammonia they are dumping into Lake Michigan. BP says that they were misrepresented and have released a fact sheet to dispel all the bad press they are getting from the statements in the Tribune.
BP states that they aren’t even meeting their legal limits as far as how much pollution they actually dump into the Lake. On the same note, they state that only treated water is being put into the Lake and therefore not adversely affecting the environment.
I think it’s such a shame how BP is being attacked. I don’t have any alliance with them, but I have been following their progress. I am all about making the environment better, and I really think that BP is working to show other companies how to help the environment. It really just sounds like a bunch of hype to discredit them so their practices are not adopted by the oil industry at large.
So who is right and who is wrong? I leave that up to you to decide. The fact that BP has come out with transparent statements in reaction to the bad press says something to me. I don’t think they are trying to hide anything. It really just sounds like a bunch of corporate jealousy. If a company succeeds, someone HAS to try and discredit them.
