Explosion at PayPerPost
By Bulletz. Filed in Blog Tech, Marketing |Last night I watched n atomic bomb go off. I don’t know how many survivors are left, but those that do survive are going to be affected for a long time to come. PayPerPost has just begun it’s phase out of all non-quality blogs in preparation for the fabled money making monster named Argus. Their terms of service have been changed in order to govern the ENTIRE blog of each and every member. They are taking away the right for a blogger to control how they post and what they post in their blog. Read for yourself and see if you agree:
You may post a maximum of two (2) PayPerPost Marketplace Opportunity-related posts per blog in any given day. Sponsored posts may not appear consecutively on your Blog. Each Sponsored post must be separated by at least one non-sponsored, original content, post. ‘Sponsored’ posts apply to both PayPerPost Direct and Marketplace Opportunities, as well as other sponsored posts from competitive services.
In other words, you are supposed to use their terms of service to govern your entire blog, or risk being banned as of yesterday. The new development comes as a huge slap in the face to long time posties. Many of the long timers have never sacrificed blog quality just to make a few extra bucks in any marketplace online. Unfortunately for them, an many other bloggers, they are being penalized along with those who deserve it. The bans and suspensions have not begun as of right now, but they will soon. Many a postie has taken their affiliate links and badges off their sites. Many a postie has blogged about the seriousness of this new development in the TOS. There is an eerie quiet in the forums there, as people try to swallow this pill.
Many believe that this is a ploy to get bloggers to choose who they will work for, and who they will drop. The heated debate continued into a 25 page debacle that went into the night. All I can do is shake my head at this point. Only time will tell if PPP can recover from this, their own Hiroshima.

I’ve been so busy I’m way far out of touch but I read this and I understood immediately how many would feel. Our blogs are our blogs and should always remain that way.

Our blogs are ours. They pay for a single post, not my whole blog.
I’m glad Ted came right out and said it though, the adverts want control of our blogs, and PPP is giving it to them.
Fuck that noise.

Insightful commentary. Personally, I am beginning to think that this is PPP’s way of attempting to corner the market on bloggers and squeeze out their competition, but I also hope that I’m wrong.

I wish PPP cared about how hard I have been defending them in the last few months. I’ve been telling my readers how much I love PPP because they care about their Posties. No, they care about their advertisers. I’m an idiot.

Kat I agree. If they paid for the whole blog I would be making a heck of a lot more than one post is giving me.

Dana it really does seem that way. It’s a direct attack upon those who use other services.

Elizabeth a lot of people have promoted the snot out of PPP, defended it, posted snide comments on other people’s blogs in favor of it, fought for PPPs reputation to the hilt and it just looks like all that is being tossed in favor of another system. I totally understand how you feel.
