Control the content of your movies: ClearPlay

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Have any of you heard of this new DVD player that allows you to cut out the nudity, violence, naughty words, and anything else you find objectionable out of your movies? I just found out about it yesterday. For less than $80 you can buy the ClearPlay DVD Player online or at local tech retail stores. Apparently, this player integrates smooth cutting and pasting technology to give you a family friendly movie watching experience every time. There are filters for each movie, and they can be downloaded at the website. If you want to keep updating those filters, pay $7.95 a month and you get a USB stick where you can download new filters, plug it into the DVD player, and off you go. You can try it out for 30 days free (the subscription, that is).

I am actually looking into it for my family. We already have ProtecTV but that doesn’t take out anything but the profanity, and you have a constantly scrolling captions with XXX instead of the bad words. HMMM…not what it purported to be. This looks to be much better. Let me know if you try it out.

Only because of this statement that has now replaced the mumbo jumbo bullmess from before:

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

That is what the new Terms of Service say. It happened a few weeks back, but I was out of the loop for a minute. This post is for anyone else that might have missed it, too.

CiD issues

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

I had some crazy things going on over here on my computer. I kept getting this popup adware crud with prefix CiD. My husband had downloaded GalaPlayer to watch something, and it didn’t work. What it did do was open a hole for 4 different types of Trojan viruses and this crazy undetectable adware to get away with practical system murder. Thankfully, people across the net post things once they figure out how to fix them. I was glad to see this specific post about the CiD adware and how to get rid of it. After about 3 hours of waiting for my scanners to do their job, then running the extremely quick NoLop software, my computer is free and clear of 7 evil threats and the adware. What boggles my mind is that my 4 softwares didn’t even pick up on this at all when I ran the scans.
