$175 is the new $100…laptop wise

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

The famous $100 laptop has just been jacked up $75 more dollars. The fear is that the project will not get the funding it needs in order to get off the ground.

The project needs orders for 3 million machines so its manufacturing and distribution effort can get rolling.

Even at the new price, the computers are a steal. They still come with Windows operating system. I hope that they are able to get the initiative rolling. Hopefully through this project, someone will be able to make a name for themselves and help their country in the process.

Brazilian tribes get free Internet

Friday, March 30th, 2007

In a twisted attempt to save the rainforests, Brazil has decided to extend its reach into the forest to the native tribes that live there. Telecenters are going to be built in an effort to get all the Amazonian tribes online. It’s free, but is it worth it? What change will these people be able to bring about? I don’t know if tearing down rainforest to build the necessary data centers and electric plants will be better for preservation of the forests in the long run. Only time will tell.

New ringtones sound like the savage beast

Monday, February 26th, 2007

It’s true! Non-profit organizations are getting the word heard through their rare ring tones. You can download them for free. There are more projects for cell users in the works. Right now you can get some pretty interesting sounds as ring tones like the hooting of owls, the howl of a wolf, the click of a tree frog, and so many more. You really have to hear them to believe them. It’s all about trying to get people to think about more than just the small pod in which they live. I am going to be looking for eagle screams, myself :D

$100 laptop may be for public consumption

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Rumor has it that the $100 laptop might just go for public use as well as use in the developing countries. Purchasers would have the obligation to buy two, one going to a developing country. Seems that there will be plenty of profit for all if they decide to use the $100 laptop in this way, not to mention a good number of children will be able to get started on their blog mogul careers.

Novel for the $100 laptop

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

You will find a new idea behind the system being run on the $100 laptop. They are looking to promote community more than function with the laptops. Apparently, teaching children to run business applications isn’t exactly the best concept. Instead, they will be trying to network with others on their level around the world. They won’t see icons to start Microsoft Office, but a picture of the network to which they belong. Unity is the key in the new laptop systems. I cannot WAIT to see where this takes us in the next few years.
