Finally a way to close tabs en masse

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

I have been wishing on stars for this Firefox addon to be written and released. You can download the Multiple Tab Handler, which will allow you to drag your mouse over a group of tabs and close them at once. This comes in handy when I am going through my blog lists every day. I hate having to either close the window or close each tab one by one. Thanks so much to the author of this addon!

Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 8 predictions

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

Firefox 3 is going to become an entity in and of itself. From the wiki that I read on FF3, Mozilla is going after the highest prize: becoming a stand alone information module. Their 3rd version will be bigger, better, and stronger than any other version thus far. Firefox 4 is already in the works for 2008, as well. Gran Paradiso, as the third installment has been dubbed, will be out in the third quarter of this year. Microformats are the key to Mozilla turning this browser into something really huge. If Mozilla can succeed in becoming the information broker, they will blow the competition out of the water.

Internet Explorer 8, I fathom, will still end up with major security issues. Microsoft seems to be plagued with having to make patch after patch for their products. They also suffer from copycat-itis. One day I was looking at a screenshot that I could have sworn was FF2 but it was IE7! I guess they figure that something so popular can’t be bad. They are trying to build on the interface and make it their own, but it’s coming off really really wrong.

I know I seem rather biased against everything Microsoft, but believe me, if they got their stuff together and became as they once were I would be singing their praises. I mean, come on! They are going to be supporting microformats in their next upgrade, too. The skins are starting to look alike. I have a feeling they will be forever trying to play catch up on this one.

Firefox 2 met with controversy

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

I’m not mad. I upgraded the very minute it was evident that the new version was released. It is faster, more stable, and a sweet deal all over. I am waiting for 2 of my extensions to be upgraded to work with this version of Firefox, but other than that Mozilla has done right by me and I expect that the next release will be even better. Kudos to you Mozilla!

Now if Microsoft could get their act together, they might have a fighting chance. Already two flaws have been found within their system…and don’t forget that my prediction about the hack came true for Vista.

Mozilla Firefox 2:Poised for failure?

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Firefox 2 is on the brink of final release, but there has been a lot of talk about the major problem with the browser: memory. Mozilla Firefox is, and has been, the kind of browser that totally bombards your system by stealing much from the memory resources. The browser runs slowly, lags behind, has many errors because of the lag, and generally steals your memory until you fully close the entire browser. Closing tabs does not make a difference.

The competition, Internet Explorer 7, has been getting a lot of praise…much of which comes from former FF users who have since switched. Why? Less loading time, less memory wasted, overall better performance.

Opera is also about to release it’s 9th version. This browser has long overshadowed Firefox in performance and usability.

So the big question: how do they compare? Take a look at this chart . One must wonder who will win in the big browser wars.

Only time will tell.
