Digital Deadlines Looming

Monday, February 26th, 2007

As of March 1, manufacturers have to have all their analog hardware and knobs exchanged for digital ones. This mean that televisions, VCRs, DVDs, and the like are going to have to get a small tweak in order to meet the FCC‘s demands. Digital will be the word by next February when all analog channels and equipment will have been completely replaced with their digital cousins. This doesn’t really affect consumers very much right now, but I have a feeling that when things start to break it will. Mind you, this doesn’t affect cable right now so there will be some major marketing for analog decoding devices built into electronics like DVRs and such.

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

…with plans to release their tools to forty-two more countries in the near future. The discount trading service has been overly successful in recent years due to the quality of the service and accessibility to smaller traders. It’s an awesome front from which we may see many stock-prenuers blossom in the near future.

No Walking with Ipod

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

New York is looking to ban the use of Ipods when walking across a street. I think they should extend that to chewing gum, drinking lattes, and anything else that would hinder a person from successfully and quickly crossing busy roads. They say it’s for the safety of pedestrians and motorists alike. This ban would include video games, Blackberries, and any similar devices. I can hear the outcry in the streets already.

Ajax widgets go cellular

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

When I first learned about Ajax it was because of WordPress. WordPress has been using Ajax as the base for their blog operation for a long time. Then they brought about widgets. These drag and drop modules make it easy for anyone to customize their blog sidebars in a jiffy. Now Ajax is bringing their modules to cell phones. DoMo users will have access to all kinds of little pieces of their favorite sites, RSS feeds, and videos on their cell phones. Email providers are already getting into the groove so that cell users are able to access their mail from anywhere they happen to be. It’s an interesting new approach to phones. The focus is more user friendly than tech savvy and it is going to make a cell phone revolution.

Top 10 Selling Cell Phones of 2006

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

If you are looking for a cell phone, or just want to see how yours rates, take a look at this. The list for the best selling cell phones of 2006 has been released. No matter the provider, it seems that the RAZR is all the rage in cell phones. That would explain why so many outside the US are releasing similar technology.

Motorola dominates the list with its sleek phones. All but two on the top 10 come from Motorola. There is no question as to why Samsung is stepping up their game in the cell industry. The new releases of this year should turn the tides to a less centralized list of phones. My prediction is that they will all be based on the same technology: the ultimate smart phones.

These phones can do pretty much everything. They play music, videos, and television. The phones can be used as modems, PDAs, and video recorders. There are so many features that it’s a wonder they fit into the slim packages that are being offered. Look for an explosion of smaller versions as the technology becomes more popular and refined.
