Blogger goes from Beta to Beautiful

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingGoogle’s Blogger has finally gone from Beta to full blown luxury. It is giving away features for free that WordPress is making you pay to get. You have full access to your CSS files, drag and drop templates *not just sidebars*, and custom templates that are suited to your unique style. Also, unlike WordPress, you can have advertisement on your blog that will pay you for your trouble.

The new Blogger is a bit cumbersome in that you can no longer easily switch blog systems. If you want to export your blog, there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to do so. With time, though, I am sure there will be a way.

Cheers to Google for thinking to upgrade this already rather desirable blogging system. Looks like WordPress and many other blogging platforms will have to look into upgrading their own basic features to match that of Blogger, or they will be obsolete.

Search Engine Marketing

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Coming to the forefront of the Internet is search engine marketing. There are so many websites that you have to sift through in order to get to anything of substance, that it is just a better investment for a person or company to optimize their site thorough this type of marketing. One such company is USWeb. Competition for top placement on the web is so rough that it is sometimes necessary to have someone help you out. I think it’s a great business to get into or take advantage of for the simple fact that in order to make money you have to have clients. How do you get more clients? Through the use of web branding. How do you get a brand out there on the Internet to be well known enough to gain clients? You have to optimize your site for search engines. Easiest way to do it? Hire a firm that knows more about it than yourself.

Review: PoundPrivacy.org

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

INFO:

Poundprivacy.org (#privacy) is campaigning for the largest search entities on the internet to become more secure. They have proposed to use their standardized #privacy as a way to protect all searches except those which are blatantly criminal such as searches for child pornography.

They are asking anyone else who believes in safe and private searching on the net to write an open letter to any of the four search engines (Google, Ask, Yahoo, and MSN) they are in the process of working with and tell them what you think. You can also link to them, use #privacy in your searches, or use their banner on your site.
OPINION:

I support their efforts 100%. I would rather not have everything that I search for cached across the Internet. Guess I have another thing to remember as I run willy-nilly across the internet looking for whatever it is.

I just wonder how effective it will be overall. How are they filtering which sites are criminal and won’t be protected and which aren’t criminal? Using the #privacy will not render you quick results as of yet, until it’s fully adopted into the search engines. The site does offer the Greasemonkey Privacy script which I have just installed. I will give you an update after I have made a full test run of the script.

Others are already talking about the implications of using #privacy in searches. Take a look:

Digg users weigh in.
Ignore the #privacy campaign.
New privacy standard gaining momentum.

Veoh so good!

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

I have been looking at alternative video hosting sites since GooYou came in sight of becoming an issue, and found Veoh. Take a look at what 1938 Media’s spokesperson has to say about the site. I myself like the TV to web feel of the site. I haven’t found an all inclusive video plugin for WordPress, or you would be seeing this video from Veoh’s servers.

Enjoying my last days of FREEdom

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

Yes I am soaking up as much free YouTube video as I can stand in the little time we have left before the merger solidifies like concrete on a hot day.

If you frequent Google Videos, you know there is a certain amount of free and a certain amount of pay for play videos. I personally enjoy free videos with the option to download and pay. The one thing that keeps me from loving Google videos is the whole “pay $2 to watch this video” thing. I don’t like to pay money for intangibles. You know, things you cannot get a hard copy of for later use or viewing pleasure.

Programs like IMVU have an option for you to get intangibles to play their game. I will never buy accessories and whatnot to games and stuff like that. Seriously, money is better spent on things that can be continuoulsy enjoyed.
