Yahoo pimping IE7

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

Yahoo has been pimping Internet Explorer 7 right into your Inbox. They tout is as more secure, but I am thinking *more secure than WHAT?*

Take a look at what I got in my email:

Yahoo makes sure you know to upgrade

I don’t know about you, but I would rather not be told that they recommend my upgrading. Do they even know what browswer I use? Apparently not, nor do they care.

You also have to love how the free upgrade is optimized specially for Yahoo. Makes you curious…you start thinking “What did they do differently just for Yahoo?”.

I use Firefox myself, and am patiently awaiting the full release of Firefox 2. So Yahoo, save your breath. I don’t plan on *upgrading* to the beefed up Internet Explorer 6 also known as IE7.

Mozilla Firefox 2:Poised for failure?

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Firefox 2 is on the brink of final release, but there has been a lot of talk about the major problem with the browser: memory. Mozilla Firefox is, and has been, the kind of browser that totally bombards your system by stealing much from the memory resources. The browser runs slowly, lags behind, has many errors because of the lag, and generally steals your memory until you fully close the entire browser. Closing tabs does not make a difference.

The competition, Internet Explorer 7, has been getting a lot of praise…much of which comes from former FF users who have since switched. Why? Less loading time, less memory wasted, overall better performance.

Opera is also about to release it’s 9th version. This browser has long overshadowed Firefox in performance and usability.

So the big question: how do they compare? Take a look at this chart . One must wonder who will win in the big browser wars.

Only time will tell.
