Keylogging revisted

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

I am still a bit unsettled about what it means to use a keylogger program. I mean, it’s good for parents who need to keep tabs on their children. It’s good for some employers to make sure that the employees aren’t using company time to socialize. I find that there is a great potential for this medium to be used in business as an accountability tool. You and I have a conversation, it is known that I record it. Everything is in writing and if we end up in court, there are plenty of records to back me up. You can even keep track of yourself and what you do on your computer, so if you are forgetful like me you won’t have a problem figuring out what you have said and done.

There is a point where it all goes downhill and becomes a technique to spy on others. I was watching a court show the other day where a husband had a program like this and was spying on his wife. That is where I draw the line. Keylogging is great for many different uses. It’s a little money to put out to make sure your family is safe, but it’s not supposed to be used as your personal private eye. I just want to put the warning out there not to abuse this program. Just as fast as the technology was released it can be recalled. Let’s not ruin it for everyone who needs a program of this nature.

Gasoline prices dictated by mean green

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Just as I suspected, gas prices are no longer calculated by the price per barrel for crude. Now it’s all about supply and demand…mostly demand. I believe that even if the refineries still did keep crude on hand at all times they would STILL gouge us at the pump.

Why?

The almighty dollar, baby. You can’t blame them for taking advantage of our dependence on “black gold”. I even heard a report that there will be a rise in the price of corn based gases. Yet another way to get us coming and going. You can’t pay the price for regular gas. Soon, the price for alternative gases might rival those we are paying for gasoline.

I hope they can figure out how NOT to drive us all into the poor house.

Broadband: The same but different

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Since I am traveling outside of my comfort zone in about 24 hours, I have been looking to see if the things that are offered where I am going are the same as here. This search has taken me to websites about Broadband ISP services around the world. I was really shocked to find that AOL offers a Broadband UK package. There are also a bunch of service providers that I don’t recognize that offer comparable services overseas.

I am not visiting a foreign country, as it were, even though their major language is not English. I found out that they, too, have broadband. With all the mountains, I would think it to be nearly impossible to do. Broadband Internet has pretty much taken over. I wouldn’t be surprised if they DID get the service into the rain forests or even throughout the deserts.

Science: Changing the form of blood

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Scientists have found a way to make A, B and AB blood into group O negative blood that can be used for safe blood transfusions. They still need to do some testing, but the initial outlook for this technology is good. They are hoping that this will relieve the blood shortages that we have had. O negative blood can be used in all patients, whereas positive blood fluids cannot.

This is a technology to watch!
