Shopping for a camera? Look at the reviews first

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Reading other people’s experiences can help save you a lot of headache and money. The first thing I do when I look for any type of electronic device is to read all the reviews that are out there, then make an informed decision. Specs don’t tell you anything about how the product actually works.

If you are in the market for a digital camera, then you will want to look at Reviews of Digital Cameras first. There are a number of different brands profiled in the website. You can get a first hand look at what is behind the workings of the cameras in your price range and make an informed decision. My new camera is there and I am glad that the review is a good one. My old camera also has a glowing review. Both of them are great cameras so I think the reviewers are spot on.

Happy comparison shopping!

Refresher: UtterlyGeek.com

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

In December I gave you a link to this neat tech and gadget website called Utterly Geek and carelessly called it Utterly Geeky. I have just fixed the links and the link in the sidebar. I feel terrible that I didn’t notice before.

Utterly Geek

Since then, Utterly Geek has become a fixture in the tech blog world. I was just reading about the geek’s diet. You have to go and check out what the main staple of us who have monitors soldered to our foreheads. I was also happy to see a gadget that I can use as I have so many gadgets and gizmos to plug in under my desk. Thanks to Julie, I know now about the ever useful power squid. Of course, that begs the question: how many squids can you plug into another squid before meltdown?

Is your business working?

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Many of us thrive through the business we have on the Internet. What happens when your business site goes down? You might be losing money. I know that has happened to me a number of times when I had no idea what was going on. I would be happily surfing the Internet, then check my site and get a 404 error or *site not found* page. UGH! I started to use a monitoring service like Simple Server Monitor to get the information I needed about my server in a timely fashion. It’s not fun finding out that your server has been down for 12 hours AFTER the fact. Services like Simple Server eliminate the element of not knowing. I use a service that doesn’t have as many features as this one, but you can get this fully functioned service for 20% off right now. It’s usually $49.95. Since the service is in Beta they are willing to give you the discount with the coupon code V20BETA. Hurry! The coupon is only good till March 31st. ALSO when the service comes out of beta, the upgrade is free.

Launch: Cafe.com in beta

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Need more games to relieve your stress? You can try out Cafe.com. Still in the Beta stages, they offer a free membership and free game play. The interface is Web 2.0 compliant. Upside is that everything is initially free. Downside is that you have download something in order to play. At one point in gaming with avatars and such, you will notice that you need to purchase *with real money* gold coins to enhance your game play. This is for avatars and accessories for them.

You always have to be connected to the online server in order to play the games. Once you download the client, they will place an icon on your desktop that will connect you to Cafe.com once it is clicked.

Check out the FAQ and see if this is the gaming site for you. They answer most of the questions that you might have before you download the client. Also check out their blog for more information and some neat gadgets for your blogs.

Review: Blog for Work at Home Women

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

I was asked to take a look at a blog by Doris. She is a work at home woman and cunning blogger. I was only recently introduced to her network of blogs and must say that I am impressed. Home Office Women:A Meeting Place for All Home Office Women has a simple, elegant layout. Everything is right at your finger tips. There is a featurette that she publishes about a special H.O.W. woman. The blog covers search engine optimization, suggestions for bloggers, information about how to make money, and so much more. I am still looking through all the goodies on this site. I am definitely adding it to the blogroll here at Tech It Like A Man.
