Secure your data for free

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Microsoft Outlook users should be aware of a program that allows them to utilize better security in their email activities. You can get a free full version data security download right now and try it out for yourself. This program serves as an encryption mechanism for sensitive information that you may have to transmit through email. SecureZIP – The next generation of ZIP, isn’t a tool specifically for businesses, but will also work well for the every day user. You need to use your email address to get the download link. Check it out and let me know what you think. I will be testing this out more myself and will write a follow up review of the program soon.

I did finally get my email from www.securezip.com to download the program. I am still in testing phases. I thought that the email would come right away, but for whatever reason it took till the next day to receive. Make sure to check your junk mail folder for the email so you don’t miss it. It didn’t go to mine, but that’s just a precaution for anyone who decides to try the program for themselves. Let me know what you think of it when you get it working for you.

Disposable phone number for online adverts

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

I was just reading on Kim Komando about the free phone number you can get from Craig’s List. It’s all about keeping your information private and your home safe. I love the idea of the Craig’s Number. You can even use the number on other classified listing sites online.

This is an idea that should be expanded for online usage everywhere. I think that any time you can keep your privacy while using the Internet it’s a red letter day. So many people are being swept up in controversy lately, it is best that we all look to making our online lives safer.

Thinking on Internet Harassment

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Since the whole Stop Cyberbullying Day idea, I have been hearing more and more about what people do to deal with harassment on the Internet. Some are taking a proactive stand by contacting different news outlets, while others are blogging it so anyone who passes by will read about it. Education in all things is key.

I was reading a fellow work at homer’s website today and she was talking about the code of ethics that people should be subject to when in someone’s blog space. I found it interesting that she talked of being a “big bad business woman”. It’s hard to be seen as equals on any playing field, especially one that is normally ruled by men. It’s hard to cope, then you have people of the opposite sex who will come and deliberately taunt you, trying to rattle your cage. It’s terrible! Go read what she says about this, and other home business issues.

Stop Cyberbullying Day

Friday, March 30th, 2007

In honor of Kathy Sierra, the Blogher community has announced that today should be is Stop Cyberbullying Day. I am all for it. I read the account of bullying and intimidation that was made public by Kathy herself. It was a courageous attempt at letting the world know that what happens on the Internet doesn’t stay on the Internet. This community is not one that is going to allow intimidation and scare tactics to overrun its halls. We will stand up for our rights to live without fear of cowards who hide behind anonymity.

I am one hundred percent behind the initiative to stop the cyberbullying. I have been a victim myself on more than one occasion. It seems that if you stand for anything, people will try to cut you down. Thanks to people like Kathy Sierra, we don’t have to just stand there and let them do it.

Edited to say that the idea originated here. Thanks for the comment and correction on that :D

PayPal isn’t that bad

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I have read all the arguments against PayPal, but I must say that I disagree.

After I purchased my computer, I got a phone call from them to verify that I had made the purchase. Why? Because it isn’t in my normal pattern of spending. The most I have ever taken from that account at one time in a purchase is about a hundred dollars. I didn’t know that they would call and verify the $400 purchase like that. They even made sure to verify all the charges after it just in case someone had stolen my card.

So, thanks, PayPal for making sure that no one had stolen my card and made excessive purchases.
