Spyware Review Site

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

I hate trying to download a program that won’t work in the long run. It’s annoying and inconvenient. That’s why I would rather go to a review site and find out the truth beforehand. One of the most downloaded types of software is for spyware detection. Spyware Reviews are handy when you need to do some maintenance and don’t want to have to search around the width and breadth of the Net just to get a decent program. I love this site because they don’t pull any punches. Whether the comment is for or against a product, they will let it out to the public. Those are the kinds of reviews that the world needs. Give me honesty or don’t talk at all.

Spoof your way to jail

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

There is a new menace in town and it’s called SpoofCard. Recently I have been introduced to www.SpoofCard.com. It is a website that allows people to pretend to be someone else on the phone. You can change the caller ID display to say whatever you want, change your voice to sound like another person, and record your phone calls.

In some instances, phone call recording is a good thing BUT all these features that are made out for fun can be abused just as easily. You don’t even need a computer to use the service. You can just dial the 1-800 number, put in your information, set up your call, and away you go.

Two main points:

1.You have to buy a calling card from them in order to use the service.

2.Recording phone calls and changing your voice is free.

It’s a great way to get yourself thrown in jail.

Net neutrality site and Google team up.

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

Net Neutrality is a huge deal in the world right now. Freedom of access is being threatened as Congress closes in on a decision on control. Google is teaming up with the grassroots company Save The Internet to try and preserve freedom on the net. I signed the petition a while back when I first heard about the issue being raised. The Internet is the last real stronghold for free access. Public opinion is forthcoming all across the board and whether we agree with what is being said or not, it’s still out there. We shouldn’t have to pay to get a faster connection to the information that we desire. Nor should a few companies be able to monopolize and monetize the Internet in such a way.

It’s a shame that we have to have such wars in our own neck of the woods when there are way more important things for Congress to be messing around with…like, maybe getting our troops out of hostile territory, but that’s a post for another day.

Four More Patches for Microsoft

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

This time it’s not Vista or Office 2007 with the issues. They fixed Internet Explorer 7 which had a critical error. Three patches were for older versions of Office. The holes could allow a hacker to control a person’s entire computer from a remote system. The patches can be installed directly from the Microsoft website if your automatic updater is not available.

News like this just keeps pushing me over to Ubuntu.

Keystroke loggers to protect your family

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Net safety is one of the biggest issues in our society today. With social networks and easy access to pornography, many minors have all the tools they need to get into a heap of trouble. That’s where this technology comes in. I recommend that any parent take a look at the different keystroke logger programs out there, pick one, and install it as soon as possible. My son is nearly old enough to be able to go to places that he shouldn’t on the Internet, so I am always looking into programs that will ramp up safety and security on the Internet.

These programs don’t just log keystrokes, but they also monitor email, websites, chats, and programs that may be harmful or hazardous. It’s a necessity for any conscientious parent.
