Turkey YouTubers told TOUGH

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Turkey is banning YouTube from all the computers in the country. The problem being that their government thinks that there are videos on YouTube that degrade and humiliate the people of Turkey.

“Banning access to the Web site does not punish those who did that (posted the videos) but the citizens of the Turkish republic,” said student Kursat Cetinkoz, reading from a petition the group submitted to the court in Istanbul.

I think it’s utterly ridiculous to believe that banning YouTube is going to make it any better for the inhabitants of the country. The ban is punishing everyone for what a few people did. Something like that is never really acceptable.

AT&T Jumps the bandwagon

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Qualcomm MediaFLO TV for cellphones will be hitting Cingular phones soon. In the wake of the Nokia deal, it looks like AT&T will be getting in on the game soon themselves. They have not determined how much they are charging or even what they will have available for people to watch on the cell TV, but I am sure that they will come up with something viable soon.

YouTube going back in time

Monday, February 12th, 2007

YouTube has just signed with Digital Music Group Inc. This will give users the opportunity to see old shows like the popular Bill Cosby classic I Spy. I can’t wait to watch all the old shows on YouTube. The networks aren’t smart enough to keep them on television, so someone has to pick up the slack. I am glad that they have struck a deal and I will be able to expose yet another generation to the genius of the 60s.

Nokia with YouTube and more

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Nokia has jut teamed up with YouTube to bring video to their phones. Partnering with YouTube will allow Nokia to stream any video that is on the YouTube server right to the phones with little hassle.

They have also decided it would be good put out a phone that will cost around $600. This one will have mapping/GPS style capabilities. The 6110 Navigator should be released to the masses in the second quarter.

I don’t have much to say about these things other than a $600 phone with GPS is pretty sweet, even if it does cost nearly one full paycheck.

YouTube Pays for Play

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

SO YouTube has decided to open the doors of revenue to the independent filming masses. They are working with the BBC to pay users who upload uncopyrighted videos. It would be a great idea if we would be exposed to great films, clips, and videos of thought provoking videos. My guess is that they will end up with more videos of babies, pets, and stupid human tricks than they can handle. Hopefully the revenue incentive will build a community of people who are into quality uploads. I don’t have a problem with people who like to share their family videos or pets doing cute things, but I am talking on the larger scale…the content as a whole.
